Churches

14.3% of Canadians live with a diagnosed disability(stats Can. 2008).  14.3% of a church with 400 members is 57.  It is not likely that a church of that size would have 57 congregants who have a disability.   Why are the numbers of individuals with disabilities in churches often far lower than the reported national statistic?

Another startling reality is this statistic:  One third of families affected by disabilities will leave their church and of those families, one third will leave their faith!

As representatives of the body of Christ, we believe that churches and faith communities are called to inclusion.  We seek to promote awareness and provide support to groups that want to learn how to better include their members who live with disabilities and churches who want to be intentional about disability ministry as a form of outreach.
