Bringing Joy Through Care Cards

At Hope Centre Ministries, we believe in the power of connection and belonging. One way we live out that mission is through our Care Card Ministry. What began during the isolation of COVID-19 has blossomed into a cherished tradition that continues to touch lives each month.

What Are Care Cards?

Each month, we send out “Happy Mail” in the form of beautifully designed postcards. These aren’t just any postcards—they feature stunning pictures of animals on the front and delightful content on the back. You’ll find fun facts, thoughtful reflections, puns, and jokes related to the featured animal.

Our most recent card, for example, showcases an impressive picture of bison in the snow. On the back, recipients learned that bison can run at speeds of nearly 35 miles per hour—faster than most types of horses! We also shared this joke:

What did the bison say to his son when he dropped him off at school?

Bye-son!

We wrapped it up with a message of encouragement: “Our strong bison friends remind us of the power of our God. We are so grateful that He is always with us. Your friends at Hope Centre Ministries.”

Jennifer’s Caring Touch

Jennifer, a valued member of the Hope Centre Ministries team, plays a vital role in preparing and ensuring that care cards are sent every month. Living with a disability herself, Jennifer brings a heartfelt and prayerful approach to this ministry. Each time she prepares the cards, she prays over the names of the recipients.

Her thoughtful care extends to birthday cards as well. Jennifer has made it her mission to choose a unique card for each person, writing a personalized message and tucking in a fun little surprise. Every time she mails a birthday card, she prays for the recipient, ensuring that each person feels seen, celebrated, and loved.

A Touchpoint of Care

The heart behind our Care Card Ministry is to ensure that every person with a disability who finds belonging and care at Hope Centre Ministries feels:

  • Noticed: Each card is addressed personally by name.
  • Known: The cards arrive directly in their mailbox—a tangible reminder of connection.
  • Missed: We intentionally reach out beyond our registered programs to maintain relationships.

More Than Just a Postcard

Each care card mailing includes additional items, such as:

  • Monthly calendars to display on the fridge.
  • Invitations to special events, empowering individuals to stay connected.

We know that some individuals with disabilities are supported by multiple staff members, who may not always be familiar with HCM or proactive about signing up for programs. Our goal is to empower the individuals themselves by ensuring they have direct access to upcoming events and opportunities.

A Collection of Joy

The response to our Care Cards has been overwhelmingly positive. Many recipients eagerly anticipate each new card, wondering what animal will be featured next. Some have kept every single card, displaying them as a colorful collection of joy and inspiration.

Birthday Celebrations

Another key part of our Care Card Ministry is sending personalized birthday cards. Birthdays are important milestones, and we want each person to feel celebrated and cherished. For some, this card may be the only one they receive. Hearing things like “Don’t forget it’s my birthday coming up—you’re going to send me a card, right?” reminds us of just how meaningful this simple act of love can be.

Join the Happy Mail List

We would love for more people to sign up to receive Happy Mail. By joining the list, you’ll receive:

  • A monthly care card with inspiring content.
  • A special birthday card to celebrate your big day.

If you or someone you know would like to experience these joyful reminders of care, belonging, and celebration, fill out the “Happy Mail” form to be added to the list!

At Hope Centre Ministries, we are committed to nurturing meaningful connections and ensuring that every person knows they are valued. Our Care Card Ministry is just one of the many ways we live out that mission—one postcard at a time.
